Graduation FAQ

Q: How do I book a session?

A: You must contact me via my contact page. Let me know you’d like to book a graduation session and give me all the information such as where you’re graduating from, some dates you’d be free, and what package you’d like to go with. We will figure out a date, time and location to meet and once we’ve gotten all that figured out, you will be asked to make a $50 deposit to secure your session.

Q: Is there an extra charge for additional people?

A: There is no charge for additional people in the photos unless they’re also graduates. Additional people will incur an additional 10% charge of the total booking amount per person, so a 1 hour session would be $200 + $20/person, 2 hour session would be $350 + $35/person… etc.

Q: How many location changes do I get?

A: You get unlimited location changes within the time you book. On average I tend to spend around 15 min at each location and 5 min to walk to another location which means each location will take about 20 min of time, so you’d get around 3 location changes within 1 hour. I ask for your list of locations beforehand so we can plan It out. I am very experienced at a lot of college campuses so I will be able to give you direct feedback if your list of proposed locations are doable with the time you book. Keep in mind that if you’re booking when a lot of other people are taking grad photos (usually within 3 weeks of commencement), there will usually be a long line to wait at popular shooting locations. The Bear statue at UCLA, Mudd Hall at USC, the Matador statue at CSUN and the “Go Beach” sign at CSULB are notorious for having very long wait times. If you’re booking closer to your commencement it is strongly recommended that you book at minimum the 1.5 hour package. I usually have multiple graduates to shoot each day so I will likely have another shoot right after our time is scheduled to end, so book your shoot with enough time for us to do everything we need to as I will likely not be able to give you additional time on the day of if we run out of time or you decide you want more photos. I could add more time to your shoot and “upgrade” your shoot but it would have to be done on a different day.

Q: How long is the turnaround time?

A: Unedited copies of ALL photos will be available the day of your shoot via a link. Once you get your photos you’ll need to select your favorites to go through editing. Edited photos will be delivered the same day you make the selections, so yes, my turnaround time is LESS than a day! Unedited images and RAW files are completely different things. RAW files will NOT be given under any circumstances. Unedited images are given in all packages at low resolution for the purposes of making your selects, you’re free to keep those if you wish.

Q: What do you do in editing?

A: Editing usually is adjustments to lighting, color and crop. Editing may also include removal of small pimples, people or other distracting elements in the background/ foreground. More complex things may be done such as overcast days made to look clear if possible. Skin smoothing and other body modifications are not something I will provide. Most of the look my photos have are done in camera which eliminates the need for major editing. You’ll notice sometimes my photos just need a small shift in color and contrast, while others may need a little bit more work. The combination of me getting it right in camera as well as my streamlined editing procedures is why I am able to have such a fast turnaround time unlike most grad photographers who will estimate delivery within 1-2 weeks. See photos at the bottom of the page for before and after examples.

Q: Are the final images in full resolution?

A: Yes, the final edited images are at the highest resolution I can produce. It’s so good, you’ll be able to count your eyelashes… you can see an example of the quality at the bottom of the page.

Q: What is the best time to take photos?

A: It depends on the month. From April to June, the sun sets between 7:15 - 8:00. Usually 3 hours before the sun sets is the ideal time to start. Keep in mind that 1 month before commencement there will be a lot of people taking photos around sunset which means increased waiting times at locations which will mean less time for us to take photos. In my experience UCLA and USC work fine any time of the day from morning ‘till sunset.
